Excelsior, and her sisters, was a wonderful design: Elegant Sleek and Powerful.

Basically she, with a few refit Constitution elements, seems like an older sister (at the very least spiritually) to the Sovereign class, cause no other federation classes til the Sovereign following her had a sleek look to them.

Yes, the Excelsior is one pretty lady.

Yes indeed :)

'Bulkier' then the Refits, but not in an unpleasant or squashed way (the Ambassador and Galaxy classes).

I always looked upon the Excelsior as a curvy lady :D

It puzzles me why Starfleet keeps the aging Excelsiors around. By this point the Excelsior-class must be, what, 120 years old? Yet they still compose 15% of Starfleet vessels. Same thing with the Mirandas.

I like Ambassadors much better, and they're 50 years younger. :D

The Excelsior was even a more successful design than the Constitution. Why should they scrap it and design a whole new class of starship for the job the Excelsiors do perfectly?

I dunno....progress. I'm just an Ambassador-class fanboy, I guess.

But the REAL reasons Ambassadors are so rare on-screen are because:

1) the Ambassador class was not fully conceived until "Yesterday's Enterprise"

2) sometime after "Yesterday's Enterprise", some klutz dropped the model for the Enterprise-C and irreparably ruined it.

Oh well, that's what fanart and fanfics are for! Your renders are is always stunning.
