- I have my orders. – Sitek said. With a brief nod, he turned to his tactical officer. The photon torpedo erupted from the saucer of the Entente. - It's bound for the city!- Nussbaum shouted, the image of the dreadnought replaced by that of the incoming antimatter warhead on the viewscreen. Acting on instinct, Metlesits jumped to the helms console. - In its way, Lieutenant!- he howled. Jiménez pushed the impulse enginee control lever, his eyes wide. The bluish-white flame of the photon torpedo collided with the saucer of the Polaris, shattering the monotanium panels, sending the crew flying on all decks. Klaxons were weeping on the bridge. Metlesits clambered to his feet and helped Jiménez back to his chair. - Major damage to Decks five to seven, we're losing atmosphere, shields are inoperable. – White Eagle's voice came from the intercom, intermixed with statical creaks. - Get me that green-blooded bastard! – Metlesits said, turning to Heimann. The comm officer worked silently, establishing the link between the Polaris and the Entente. - What are you doing, you idiot? – the Captain howled as Sitek's visage appeared on the screen. - It was illogical for you to position yourselves into the line of fire. – the Vulcan said, not even an eyebrow twitching. - If that torpedo hit the asteroid, thousands would be dead now! - What you speak is not the truth. The asteroid was evacuated. - You're more stupid than you look like, you green-blooded freak! Modify your sensors to filter out hexanium echoes. The asteroid is virtually made of the stuff, damping all other signals! - Being the Captain of the tactically superior vessel, I order you to stand down or face the consequences of your insubordination. - You're mad!- Metlesits shouted – There are people down there! If you want to destroy the asteroid, you have to get past us first! - I have my orders to conduct the bombardment of this asteroid, as according to the general ordnance test plan. Your rebellious behaviour shall not stand in my way. - Allright, you stupid xeno! Carry out your mission like the drone your bloody race is! But I'll make sure you'll go down with this asteroid!
It's still doing the right thing, though. The story is what makes it for me. This action is up there with Kirk & co. taking the Enterprise from Spacedock in ST III. Admiral Morrow & Capt. Styles neither knew -- nor would have cared -- about the loyalty Spock inspired in his comrades. So it was "screw you guys, we're outta here!"
Blocking photons with your own hull -- ouch. Everyone aboard must have needed dental work afterwards!
Heh... great pic and narrative.
