The Excelsior used to be my uncontested #1 favorite ship class. I was a navy fan when I was a kid, as well as a Trekkie since age 4, and I loved Excelsior because her smooth lines made her look closer to a nautical ship. Nowadays, she is getting a little competition from the "Future" Enterprise-D when it comes to favorite ships... but I still would not command any other vessel if I had the choice.
So, our love for this proud lady is something we have in common. Keep churning out those scenes, they're absolutely breathtaking.
Oh, no problem... it's just breathtaking to see the ol' girl in action like that. I still think that if I could have any Federation vessel to command, it would be an Excelsior - possibly a unique variant Excelsior with a few tune-ups and some extra tricks up her sleeves. ^_^
At first, I thought you had rendered the subspace shock wave yourself. To this day, I wonder how they accomplished that visual effect in the movie... considering it was 1991, and atmospheric CGI effects didnt exist yet.
The V'Ger cloud scene was layered airbrush animation. It was quite a beautiful scene indeed. I dont know if they used the same technique on the praxis wave or not... but they dont say on any of the commentaries, I dont think
