Finally someone made a LW conversion which I could convert to Max (Tobias Richter works in Maya and I can't open that format)...

actually, an abramsverse saladin would use the nacelle and saucer from NeoE, not kelvin.

Not sure of that. The Saladin is an older design than the Connie, so...

but it comes from the SFTM, i don't know if there's an older source, though. i'm looking right at it. though, technically speaking, the NeoE itself is about 10 years younger than it ought to be..we don't really know how old the classes are relative to each other. i'm sure you already know this, this is for those that may not: jefferies' intention, in NCC-1701, it meant it was the first ship in the 17th major class, under a Naval Construction Contract. we don't know how many were thrown out, or how many only got to NX stage... the transport, destroyer, and heavy cruiser (the first on that roll says NCC-1017..) were clearly designed as a set, by the same design team at the same shipyard, presumably as part of an initiative to unify starfleet design, or something, with other contract numbers going to other shipyards. we don't really know how starfleet worked in the interim years between the romulan war and TOS (i prefer to ignore ENT), so we don't really know when or how often they bought contracts. possibly, for many years they bought and refit civilian ships, particularly for transport and pure science purposes, and those would then not have a NAVAL contract number. possibly, also, each member government contributed its own ships and crews together to act on behalf of the federation/starfleet, much like a country will send groups of troops or aid workers to deal with something under the UN. and then, post klingon war, they went 'hey, we can't have all these guys just wandering around haphazardly, doing things their ships are not designed specifically for' and started to unify the design and objectives for ships that would be specifically designed to carry out the UFP/starfleet's objectives.

i'm just saying.

though, the case can be made that the Abramsverse plays merry hell with previously established design lineages (much like enterprise)...

sorry for the long-winded response. mine seem to run in either short sentences or short ESSAYS, with little middle ground. it took me half an hour!
