The First Fleet Officers' Oath

I …………………………., citizen of the United Earth and Her Commonwealth, hereby pledge my Officer's allegiance to the People of Our Domain.
I solemnly swear to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United Earth with respect, honour and strength. Be it a time of peace or war, I will defend my Homeland and Her People, even at the cost of my own life. Following the example of all who marched under Our Banner, I obey the orders of my superiors with dignity.
Under no circumstances shall I cause harm to the interests of Our Domain, nor will I ever bargain with the enemy whom I have sworn to protect Our Domain from. In the eyes of the People of Our Domain, I take this oath for History to judge me and find me worthy of being an Officer of the United Earth First Fleet.
Cum Arma Pro Patria Terra.
Now imagine hundreds of young officers shouting this oath at Nevsky Prospekt, Leningrad...

I recommand a throrough reading, ladies and gentlemen. What do you think of the hidden message(s) of this Oath?

Well, I see from the comments above mine that this is a slight paraphrase of a real oath but, strictly speaking, as part of the paraphrase shouldn't it be "homeworld" instead of "homeland"? :D

I, John H. Riddick, citizen of the United Earth and Her Commonwealth, hereby pledge my Officer's allegiance to the People of Our Domain.
I solemnly swear to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United Earth with respect, honour and strength. Be it a time of peace or war, I will defend my Homeworld and Her People, even at the cost of my own life. Following the example of all who marched under Our Banner, I obey the orders of my superiors with dignity.
Under no circumstances shall I cause harm to the interests of Our Domain, nor will I ever bargain with the enemy whom I have sworn to protect Our Domain from.* In the eyes of the People of Our Domain, I take this oath for History to judge me and find me worthy of being an Officer of the United Earth First Fleet.
Cum Arma Pro Patria Terra.

*I'm gonna fight those F#&%@rs, Until We Win!

Make us proud, Soldier!

(As for the homeland part - Earth has many colonies off-world which are Human land but located off the Human Homeworld of Earth.)

This is a dangerous oath indeed, one that could get the commonwealth destroyed in the end. Reading this part strictly is BAD: "...nor will I ever bargain with the enemy whom I have sworn to protect Our Domain from."

It preculdes flags of truce for collecting wounded, negotiated peace treaties or even conditional surrenders...by either side.

It might fit the culture--but watch out!

Actually, that part comes from my homeland Hungary's real officers' oath.

Real or not, it still sounds like, if taken to the letter, a dangerous way to word things.

I basically means, we won't stop until we can dictate the terms.

Heheh, slightly creepy. "the enemy" not those who threaton, or anything of the sort. Yes, the hidden message is quite clear. O.O This tells quite the story :)
